Home security has traditionally meant cameras that record but do not truly understand what they see. ELLO was built to change that relationship between families and the spaces they want to protect.

ELLO is a cloud-native smart home security platform that connects IP cameras to an AI-powered backend, giving families intelligent, real-time control over their home surveillance. The system handles live video streaming, automated threat detection across motion, intrusion, and fall events, and uses facial recognition to distinguish familiar family members from strangers. Alerts arrive when they mean something — and false alarms become a thing of the past.
—
Low-latency live streaming accessible from anywhere via a mobile app is technically demanding. Any lag or unreliability in the video feed directly undermines the value of the product for families who depend on it.
Motion alerts without context are noise. The system needed to distinguish meaningful events — intrusions, falls, unknown individuals — from routine household activity, and do so accurately enough to genuinely earn user trust.
Multiple household members needed personalised access with time-based permissions, clear onboarding, and a simple way to invite and manage new members securely.
IP cameras need remote configuration, firmware updates, and scheduling — all managed reliably over a secure IoT communication channel without requiring technical knowledge from the user. —
We built ELLO on a fully serverless AWS backend with 100+ Lambda functions and 20+ DynamoDB tables, deployed on Singapore infrastructure. The architecture was designed for scale from the very beginning — with CI/CD automation, end-to-end JWT-based security, and a clean microservices structure built to grow alongside the user base without rebuilding.
For live video streaming, we integrated AWS IVS to deliver low-latency feeds accessible in real time through the mobile app, from anywhere in the world. AI-driven threat detection is powered by AWS Rekognition, which processes each feed to identify and classify events — and, crucially, to recognise registered family members so familiar faces never trigger unnecessary alerts.
IoT device management runs over a secure MQTT channel through AWS IoT Core, supporting remote camera configuration, firmware updates, and scheduling from within the app. When a detection event occurs, the platform delivers instant notifications across push, email, and in-app channels simultaneously.
A conversational AI assistant is also built directly into the app, providing a real-time chat interface for user support and smart home queries — powered by a dedicated AI layer that understands the context of the ELLO environment.

ELLO gives families genuine confidence in their home security — not just a camera recording into a void, but an intelligent system that understands what it sees and keeps the people who matter most informed in real time. Built on Singapore infrastructure and architected to scale, the platform is ready to grow alongside its user base without ever compromising on the quality of protection it delivers.
